Astana, Kazakhstan, July 24, 2024: Gennady Golovkin, President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, will be the biggest cheerleader for the country’s athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Kazakhstan will field 80 athletes in 25 sports at the Paris Games which get underway on Friday, July 26. And the main supporter will be NOC President Golovkin, who is already in Paris with the Kazakhstan delegation.
Golovkin took to social media and posted on Instagram: “The Olympic Village experience – 20 years later.”
Golovkin represented Kazakhstan at the 2004 Athens Olympics winning a silver medal in the men’s middleweight class. Soon after he turned professional and went on to hold multiple middleweight world championships and was a two-time unified champion.
In Paris, Kazakhstan's boxing medal hopes will lie with Saken Bibossinov, a bronze medallist at Tokyo 2020 and world champion in 2021, and Kamshybek Kunkabayev, another bronze medallist in Tokyo. Also in medal contention are twins Aibek and Nurbek Oralbay.
In women’s boxing, Kazakhstan will rely heavily on two-time world champion Nazym Kyzaibay, three-time World Championship medallist Karina Ibragimova and 2016 world champion Valentina Khalova.
“I’m always here to support our team athletes,” Golovkin added on social media.
