Lahore, Pakistan, July 22, 2024: Pakistan will be represented by seven athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics, but the chances of winning a medal will lie heavily on the shoulders of javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem.

Nadeem, who made history at Tokyo 2020 by becoming the first Pakistani athlete to qualify for a track and field final at the Olympics, will carry the medal hopes of the country. Pakistan will be represented in three sports in Paris – athletics, swimming and shooting.

Nadeem came fifth on his Olympic debut in Tokyo but since then has won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and a silver medal at the 2023 World Championships.

Another laudable inclusion is 21-year-old Kishmala Talat, the first Pakistani woman to qualify for the Olympic shooting competition.

Kishmala, who will take part in the women’s 10m air pistol and 25m pistol events, won a bronze medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year. She has a world ranking of 37th (10m) and 41st (25m).

The other participants are shooters Ghulam Mustafa Bashir and Ghulam Joseph, Faiqa Riaz in athletics and swimmers Mohammed Ahmed Durrani and Jehanara Nabi.

Nadeem and Nabi will carry the Pakistan flag at the opening ceremony.
