Phnom Penh, Cambodia, July 20, 2024: The President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, HE Dr. Thong Khon, has urged the Kingdom’s three Paris 2024 athletes to break national records at the Olympic Games.
During a recent meeting at the NOCC HQ in Phnom Penh between the Cambodia delegation and government and Olympic officials, the NOCC President said the stage was set for the athletes to produce their peak performance.
“The Olympic Games is the largest sporting event in the world,” he said.
“Every athlete has a dream to participate in this event. Accordingly, when the athletes representing the Kingdom of Cambodia have the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games, we must try our best in competition - especially to break our old records in the spirit of sports, to win by fair means and to lose with honour.”
Dr. Thong Khon stressed the importance of fair play and to avoid all violations of rules and regulations, as well as adhering to anti-doping codes as this could affect the dignity of the nation.
He also urged the delegation to present a positive image of the Olympic Games and the host city for the people back home in Cambodia and not to engage in negative issues over social media
Cambodia will have three athletes in two sports at Paris 2024, which runs from July 26 to August 11.
The three Cambodia athletes will leave Phnom Penh on Sunday, July 21. The opening ceremony will be attended by H.E. Dr. Senior Minister Thong Khon and H.E. Vath Chamroeun, NOCC Secretary General.
The closing ceremony will be attended by H.E. Ly Kosal, Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense, and members of the NOCC Executive Committee.
