AESF and Guangzhou Sports University sign MOU on esports collaboration

Guangzhou, China, July 15, 2024: The Asian Electronic Sports Federation has established a partnership with Guangzhou Sports University, China, to develop cultural, educational and academic exchanges in esports.

AESF Director General Sebastian Lau and GZSU Vice-Principal Li Yuhe signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the University’s campus last Thursday.

AESF Director General Lau said: “We commend this partnership as GZSU is one of the leading public sports universities in China and recognises and values esports on par with traditional sports.

“For a university to have a course or module on esports highlights its importance and the potential esports have in the future of sports education and the creation of job markets in esports. We are grateful for such opportunities and hope that more universities in Asia will follow suit,” Lau noted.

GZSU started esports education in 2019, being one of the first universities in China to develop and offer the course to its students. The collaboration areas between the two parties include the university’s participation in future AESF Championships and other university-related competition.

Internship opportunities will also be provided to students to gain hands-on experience working in the esport industry after completing relevant courses at GZSU.

Lau added that through the AESF platform, GZSU wished to extend its esports academy to partners worldwide. The AESF would facilitate esports exchanges and study programmes.
