Acting Chief Executive officiates at flag presentation in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, China, July 9, 2024: With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games to be held soon, the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China organised the Flag Presentation Ceremony for the Hong Kong, China delegation on Tuesday, July 9 at the Central Government Offices.

 

The following VIP guests officiated at the ceremony: Mr. Chan Kwok Ki, Acting Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Mr. ‍Li ‍Yongsheng, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR; Mr. Raistlin Lau, Acting Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; Ms. Christile Drulhe, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau; and Mr. Joe Wong, Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism.

 

The Acting Chief Executive presented the HKSAR regional flag to Mr. Timothy Fok, President of SF&OC, Mr. Edgar Yang, Honorary Secretary General of SF&OC, and Dr. T. Brian Stevenson, Vice President of SF&OC and Chef de Mission of the Hong Kong, China delegation to Paris 2024.

 

Paris 2024 will be held from July 26 to August 11 featuring 32 sports. Hong Kong, China will send a delegation of about 90 people, with more than half of the athletes participating in the Games for the first time. 

 

SF&OC President Timothy Fok said: "The long-awaited Paris 2024 is about to begin. This year we have athletes who have competed in multiple Olympic Games, as well as newcomers who will make their debut on the Olympic stage, including our first-ever participation in taekwondo. 

 

“This demonstrates the passing on of the torch in Hong Kong's sports arena. We hope the public will fully enjoy the Olympic atmosphere."

 

To enhance the promotion of Paris 2024 and garner public support, a set of Olympic-themed installations, including the mascots of Paris 2024, has been set up by SF&OC at the Tamar Park in Admiralty. This will provide members of the public a "check point" to visit and cheer for the athletes from today until August 11.

 

SF&OC has launched on its YouTube Channel and social media pages the "Road to Paris" video series featuring exclusive interviews with athletes and fun facts of the Olympics, and will continue to keep the public abreast of the latest news of the delegation and their competition results through a dedicated website for the delegation.
