Hangzhou Asian Games champion rows into new world

Hong Kong, China, July 3, 2024: The Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Department has published its 15th newsletter to promote the opportunities available to retired athletes.

The HKACED is a branch of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and provides several services in cooperation with universities and other education institutions in the Special Administrative Region.

These include the Retired Athletes Transformation Programme, which offers an education subsidy, the HKACED Scholarship Programme and the Life Skills Ambassador Programme.

The e-newsletter features an interview with Hangzhou Asian Games rowing champion Wong Wai Chun, who joined the Retired Athletes Transformation Programme and was matched as a sports organisation administrator with the Sports Legacy Company Limited of the SF&OC.

“Like other retired athletes, I had to adapt to a change in athletic identity and the workplace,” he says.

“I am grateful to have a team that guides me well and shows tolerance towards me at work. This experience has enriched my work experience for my future transformation.”

Wong and Lam San Tung won the men’s pairs in rowing at the Hangzhou Asian Games last September.
