Lausanne, Switzerland, June 27, 2024: The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has set the stage for the men’s and women’s volleyball tournaments at Paris 2024.

In the 12-team men’s event, Asia’s only representative Japan has been drawn in Pool C with the United States, Argentina and Germany.

The men’s draw is:

Pool A: France, Slovenia, Canada, Serbia

Pool B: Poland, Italy, Brazil, Egypt

Pool C: Japan, USA, Argentina, Germany

The first round of the Paris 2024 men’s volleyball tournament took shape on Wednesday, June 26 - exactly one month before the Opening Ceremony, when pools for the Olympic event were drawn ahead of the start of the 2024 Volleyball Nations League Finals in Łódź, Poland.

In pool play, teams will face each of their three opponents once. Those ranked first and second in each pool will advance to the knockout quarter-finals, as well as the two best third-placed teams.

The Paris 2024 men’s volleyball tournament will feature 26 matches (18 in pool play, four quarterfinals, two semifinals and two medal matches) at the South Paris Arena, from July 27-August 10.

In the women’s event, the 12 teams are now aware of the date and the opponents they will face in their opening matches as the match schedule has been released.

The women’s event will feature 26 matches (18 pool play encounters, four quarterfinals, two semifinals and two medal matches), all to be held at the South Paris Arena, from July 28-August 11.

Recently-crowned VNL champions Italy and the Dominican Republic will appear in the first match of the women’s tournament in Paris, in Pool C on July 28, starting at 9:00 local time (7:00 GMT).

Also on July 28, the two other teams that stepped on the podium at the VNL 2024, bronze medalists Poland and silver medalists Japan, will clash at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT) in a Pool B encounter that will mark the return of the Poles to the Games for the first time since Beijing 2008.

The remaining eight teams will make their debuts on July 29, with Türkiye and the Netherlands opening the day at 9:00 local time (7:00 GMT) in Pool C, Brazil meeting Kenya at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT) in Pool B, defending champions the USA battling China at 17:00 local time (15:00 GMT) in Pool A and hosts France going against world champions Serbia in what will be their first-ever Olympic match at 21:00 local time (19:00 GMT), also in Pool A.

The women’s tournament will also feature pool play matches on July 31, August 1, August 3 and August 4. The quarterfinals are scheduled for August 6, with the semifinals set to take place on August 8. The medal matches will happen on two different days, with the bronze medal play-off set for August 10 and the gold medal match ending the volleyball Olympic calendar on August 11.
