OCM President awarded taekwondo black belt honour

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, June 23, 2024: The President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, has been awarded a 4th Dan Honorary Black Belt by Taekwondo Malaysia for his outstanding contribution to the development of taekwondo in Malaysia.

The award was presented to Tan Sri Dr. Norza by Y.B. Azizul Annuar Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, President of Taekwondo Malaysia, following the opening ceremony of an international referees’ course at the OCM Indoor Sports Complex on Friday, June 21.

The seminars and courses are being attended by 325 participants from 33 countries and will run from June 21-29.

In his speech, Tan Sri Dr. Norza urged the participants to make the course as a stepping stone to achieve accreditation as International Referees, sanctioned and licensed by World Taekwondo.

"After a decade-long hiatus, it is a privilege to witness the return of this significant seminar to Malaysia, made possible through the unwavering support of World Taekwondo. This collaboration underscores the shared commitment to upholding the highest standards and integrity in the beloved sport of Taekwondo,” said the OCM President.

"The contribution of officials, particularly referees, is essential in ensuring that sports are played fairly and transparently. Taekwondo, a martial art that has remarkably evolved into an Olympic sport over the years, requires the presence of skilled officials who embody integrity and the true spirit of sportsmanship.

“This aligns perfectly with the five tenets of Taekwondo: Courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.”
