Philippines President 'BBM' joins POC Olympic centenary celebrations

Manila, Philippines, June 23, 2024: The President of the Philippines, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., joined the centenary celebrations of the Philippines’ participation in the Olympic Games.

 

“We honor the incredible journey of Filipino athletes as we mark a century of participation in the Olympics,” the POC posted.

 

A special send-off ceremony was held in Manila with the President of the Philippines, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., and the President of the Philippine Olympic Committee, Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, to cheer on the athletes heading to Paris for the 2024 Olympics. They were heading to Metz in France for a month-long training camp.

 

“We are thrilled to unveil our sponsors, with @adidas and @peaksportsph providing top-notch apparel for our athletes. @samsungph also bequeathed a few units for the delegation. And for the grand parade, our athletes will shine in exquisite barong designed by the talented @francislibiran8," the POC post continued.

 

“Let’s rally behind our team and show the world the Filipino spirit.”

 

The Philippines first competed in the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924 and won their first gold medal at Tokyo 2020 through weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz.
