Paris-bound athletes join Olympic Day in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, China, June 23, 2024: The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China organised the 2024 Olympic Day event at the West Kowloon Cultural District on June 23.

The event aimed to promote the core values of Olympism and encourage public participation in sports.

With the Paris Olympics set to open next month, members of the public were encouraged to cheer the Hong Kong athletes as the city builds up excitement towards the Games.

With the theme of “Run with Hong Kong athletes”, the event featured a 5km and 3km individual run as well as 2km family fun run and attracted more than 4,000 participants.

A number of games booths also proved a big attraction, offering a fun-filled day out for families on the global Olympic Day.

SF&OC President Timothy Fok said: "It is great to see everyone fully engaged in the run. From June to August, our member sports associations will continue to organise a series of activities in support of the Olympic Day, including sports demonstrations and experiences and booth games, to encourage members of the public to learn more about various sports.

“In doing so, we hope members of the public will eventually live a healthy life and enjoy the fun of sport. Meanwhile, we will continue to promote the three core Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship in the community."

The Paris Olympics will kick off on July 26, and two first-time Olympians - Lee Cheuk Yiu (badminton) and Cindy Cheung Sum Yuet (swimming) – attended the ceremony in the uniforms of the Hong Kong, China delegation and spoke of their hopes and dreams.

Also attending the ceremony were Li Tsz To (athletics), Fong Shing Yee (basketball), Ng Kiu Chung (gymnastics) and Tomato Ho Tsz Lok (squash), who earlier had taken part in the filming of the promotional video for the event.
