Oman NOC holds Women and Sports dialogue

Muscat, Oman, June 19, 2024: The Women’s Sports and Gender Equality Committee of the Oman Olympic Committee, in collaboration with the French Embassy,  held a "Women and Sports" dialogue session last week.

 

The event was aimed at enhancing the role of women in sports through local, regional and international efforts, and sharing experiences to achieve a more inclusive and balanced future in sports.

 

The session was held under the patronage of Sayyidah Sana bint Hamad Al-Busaidi, Chair of the Women’s Sports and Gender Equality Committee, and in the presence of Her Excellency Veronique Aulagnon, Ambassador of the Republic of France to the Sultanate of Oman.

 

Six prominent female speakers – media presenter Rumaitha Al Busaidi, adventure athlete Nour Al Huda Al Mandhari, equestrienne Yaqeen Al Kindi, weightlifter Marwa Al Wadhahi, yoga instructor Neha Deshmukh and footballer Banin Makhaif - shared their inspiring experiences in empowering women through sports and related their success stories.

 

The French Ambassador spoke about the forthcoming Paris 2024 Olympics and noted that these Games would represent a significant opportunity to enhance women’s participation in sports globally. She emphasised that Paris will witness the largest female participation in the history of the Olympics, reflecting the IOC's commitment to gender equality.

 

Saada Al Ismail, Deputy Chair of the Women’s Sports and Gender Equality Committee, highlighted the committee’s role in supporting and encouraging women to participate in sports activities.
