Manila, Philippines, June 12, 2024: The Philippine Olympic Committee marked the country's 126th anniversary of independence on Wednesday, June 12 by announcing that Adidas would be the team apparel sponsor for the Paris Olympic Games.
“Passion, oneness, and courage fuel every victory,” the POC wrote in a Facebook post.
“As we celebrate our nation’s independence, we are thrilled to announce @adidas @adidasph as the official apparel partner for our Filipino athletes competing in the #Paris2024 Olympics.”
Independence Day is a national holiday in the Philippines observed annually on June 12, commemorating the declaration of Philippine independence from Spain in 1898. This followed the defeat of the Spanish armada by the United States navy in the Battle of Manila Bay.
Since 1978, June 12 has been the country's National Day.
In other news, the Philippine Sports Commission, government agency, will be hosting an Invitational Golf Cup to raise funds for the 15 Paris-bound athletes. This will be held on Friday, June 14 at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club.
The event was made possible by the support of both public and private sectors who are vying for the country's successful showing at the Paris Olympics, which will open July 26 and run through August 11.
