Tokyo silver medallist Paalam punches ticket for Paris

Bangkok, Thailand, June 1, 2024: Philippines boxer Carlo Paalam is heading for Paris 2024 and his second consecutive Olympic Games.

Paalam, who won a silver medal at Tokyo 2020, booked his ticket to Paris by defeating India’s Sachin Siwach in the men’s 57kg semifinals at the 2nd World Boxing Qualification tournament in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday, June 1.

This was the “last chance motel” for 25-year-old Paalam, who had tried to qualify for Paris through the Hangzhou Asian Games last year and also at the first World Boxing Qualifier in Italy in March when he struggled with a shoulder injury.

But he made no mistake in Bangkok, with a unanimous 5-0 victory over Siwach.

The Philippine Olympic Committee posted: “Our very own @paalamcarlo has punched his ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympics!

“With unwavering determination and unparalleled skill, he’s ready to bring home the gold. Let’s rally behind Carlos and show the world the heart of a true Filipino champion!”

Paalam was congratulated ringside by POC President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, who had flown in to Bangkok earlier that day from Kuala Lumpur where he was attending the OS/OCA Regional Forum.
