Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, June 1, 2024: The Olympic Solidarity/Olympic Council of Asia Regional Forum 2024 got underway at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur on Saturday morning.
The President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, Dr. Norza Zakaria, welcomed all the delegates from the National Olympic Committees from East Asia and South East Asia as well as the organising committees of upcoming OCA games.
Dr. Norza stressed the importance of sustainability and legacy in the Olympic Movement, and said the new OCM HQ would align with the IOC’s Olympic Agenda 2020+5 regarding green policy and sustainability. He described the forum as the “perfect platform” for NOCs to seek information and for organising committees to outline key aspects and timelines of their games.
Olympic Solidarity Associate Director Olivier Niamkey said the OS/OCA Regional Forum was one of Olympic Solidarity’s favourite events as it was informal and allowed the NOCs to exchange information and experience with fellow NOCs as well as the IOC and OCA.
On behalf of the OCA, Deputy Director General Vinod Kumar Tiwari welcomed all the delegates, and especially from the organising committees of three upcoming OCA events: the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Bangkok and Chonburi, Thailand, this November; the 9th Asian Winter Games (AWG) in Harbin, China next February 2025; and from the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya, Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026.
AIMAG and AWG organisers will give detailed presentations for the delegates from 11 NOCs in the SEA region and seven from East Asia, while Asian Games representatives will be available for NOCs to ask for information on specific points of preparation.
