Oman Olympic Committee puts forward proposal to establish GCC Sports Federations

Muscat, Oman, May 22, 2024: The President of the Oman Olympic Committee, Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair, chaired the second meeting of the OOC Executive Board on Sunday, May 19.

 

The meeting discussed several important issues, notably the Oman Olympic Committee’s proposal to establish GCC Sports Federations to address the organisation and technical challenges of sports competition in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

 

This proposal represents one of the mechanisms and tools that will effectively implement the approved strategic plan for developing joint cooperation in the sports field among the GCC countries. It was agreed to present the proposal at the next meeting of the National Olympic Committees of the GCC, scheduled for May 28 in Doha, Qatar.

 

The financial status of the OOC was also discussed at the meeting, and guidelines for allocating and disbursing government funds was reviewed.

 

Also present at the meeting was OOC Secretary General Taha bin Suleiman Al Kishry.
