Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, May 20, 2024: Jordan’s Zaid Abu Yaman and Lebanon’s Mariana Sahakian booked tickets to the table tennis competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics by emerging champions at the West Asia Regional Olympics Qualification tournament.
Jordanian Abu Yaman won the men’s singles competition defeating Bahrain’s Rashid Sanad 4-0 in the final on Sunday, May 19, in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.
“I’m very proud to be able to represent my country at the Olympics. It is an amazing feeling,” Abu Yaman said. It will be the first time that Jordan will have an athlete in the Olympics table tennis competition since Beijing 2008
In the women’s competition, Lebanon’s Sahakian defeated Syrian Hend Zaza 4-1 to book a qualifying berth for Paris 2024.
“It is a dream come true,” said Sahakian, who will be making her Olympic debut.
Both winners were awarded Olympic qualification souvenirs by HE Khalil Al-Mohannadi, President of the Asian Table Tennis Union.
