QOC President Sheikh Joaan attends closing ceremony of 17th School Olympic Programme

Doha, Qatar, May 19, 2024: His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, attended the closing ceremony of the 17th School Olympic Programme at the Aspire Dome on May 14.

 

The School Olympic Programme featured the participation of more than 4,000 students competing in nine team and individual sports – basketball, gymnastics, handball, hockey, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball and wrestling.

 

The closing ceremony was also attended by HE Mohammed bin Yusuf Al-Mana, first Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, HE Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al-Naimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al-Thani, Chairman of SOP Organising Committee, and Mohamed Khalifa Al-Suwaidi, CEO of Aspire Zone Foundation.

 

The SOP was launched at the end of the 2006 Asian Games in Doha and has become an important pillar in unearthing talent.
