Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, May 18, 2024: The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union staged a Sports Media Conference in Kuala Lumpur last week.
The central theme at the three-day conference was "The Rise of Sports in Asia" and it brought together ABU members and media professionals in the field of sports media and industry.
The conference from May 14-16 provided a forum for discussion, sharing experiences, networking opportunities in sports media, including digital media, marketing and content creation.
ABU Secretary General Ahmed Nadeem, who welcomed VIPs, international and local delegates and members of the media, underscored the fact that the main purpose of the Sports Media Conference was to bring sports to the people and make it more accessible as sporting events have for long been unaffordable to most people.
“Sports is one of the few activities that brings people together regardless of culture, ethnicity and background,” said Nadeem. “We have a number of workshops, master-classes and expert-led sessions and I hope this will benefit all participants.
“With more partners, we can work together and learn more from each other and share our experience,” added Nadeem.
The President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, discussed the evolution of E-sports in Asia and the importance of human collaboration with machines.
The OCM President predicted that immersive technology would revolutionise sports broadcasting and emphasised the importance of media partnerships in elevating sports, fostering growth, and promoting unity.
Olympic Council of Asia Director of Media and Broadcast, Jeans Zhou Jian, was one of the keynote speakers, and he presented "The Future of Asia Sports", touching on the rich history of the Asian Games, and the leading role Asia will play in world sports.
Also speaking at the opening session was Lorraine Yuen, ABU Sports Group Chairperson, who applauded the rise of sports in Asia.
