Thimphu, Bhutan, May 15, 2024: Danish swimmer and Olympic gold medallist Pernille Blume conducted a coaching clinic for coaches at the new Thimphu Aquatic Centre on Tuesday, May 14.
Blume, who won the gold medal in the women’s 50m freestyle at Rio 2016, and James Gibson from World Aquatics conducted the clinic for coaches and was assisted by local swimmer Sangay Tenzin who demonstrated the different drills.
Tenzin competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the men’s 100m freestyle, becoming the first ever swimmer from Bhutan to compete at the Olympic Games.
The Babena swimming pool at the Aquatic Centre was officially opened last week by HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, and HE Sudhakar Dalela, Ambassador of India to Bhutan.
