Dushanbe, Tajikistan, May 13, 2024: The National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan has congratulated the efforts of the President of the Football Federation of Tajikistan, Hon. Rustam Emomali, whose proposal to declare a World Football Day was accepted by the United Nations.
Rustam Emomali is the oldest son of Tajikistan’s President and NOC President Hon. Emomali Rahmon.
The historic sports proposal by Rustam Emomali, who is also President of the Central Asian Football Association, was accepted by the United Nations. The UN has stated that May 25 will be celebrated annually as World Football Day.
In a statement, the Tajikistan NOC said: “History shows that football has been played for more than 150 years but, until today, ‘World Football Day’ was not officially accepted in the world. The Hon. Rustam Emomali officially presented this great sports proposal to the United Nations on February 9 this year.
“In this regard, the United Nations and the international community accepted the proposal by Hon. Rustam Emomali and have now declared May 25 as World Football Day.”
The Tajikistan NOC added: “We offer our congratulations to the world football community on this historic news."
