Almaty, Kazakhstan, May 12, 2024: Newly-elected President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, Gennadiy Golovkin, held a bilateral meeting with Uzbekistan NOC officials on the sidelines of the 43rd OCA General Assembly in Bangkok.
Golovkin, who was attending his first OCA General Assembly, and Kazakhstan NOC Secretary General Zhanar Utesheva met with senior Uzbekistan NOC duo Otabek Umarov, who is also an OCA Vice President, and Secretary General Oybek Kasimov.
During the meeting it was noted that the development of sports in both neighbouring countries have common objectives and features and that joint cooperation has always been and will be based on full respect and friendship.
Otabek Umarov congratulated Gennadiy Golovkin on his election to the post of President of the NOC and expressed his support in any initiatives in the region. Further plans for the development of sports and cooperation of the two NOCs were also outlined within the framework of the meeting.
In turn, Golovkin thanked the leadership of the Uzbekistan NOC for their support and noted the achievements of Uzbek athletes, specifically congratulating Uzbekistan on the historic qualification of the men’s football team for Paris 2024.
Both parties agreed that cooperation between the two countries in the field of sports should not be based on terms of artificial competition, but on mutual support.
