OCA grants provisional recognition to three sports

Bangkok, Thailand, May 11, 2024: The Olympic Council of Asia granted provisional recognition to three sports at the 43rd OCA General Assembly in Bangkok on Saturday.

The three sports federations are the Asian Surfing Federation, the Asia Pacific Tchoukball Federation and the Asian Lawn Bowls Federation.

The Chair of the OCA Sports Committee, Mr. Song Luzeng of China, said the three sports had made detailed presentations during an online meeting of the committee on March 11.

“After serious discussions, the Sports Committee unanimously decided to recommend to the OCA Executive Board and the General Assembly that provisional recognition would be granted to the Asian Surfing Federation, Asia Pacific Tchoukball Federation and the Asian Lawn Bowls Federation,” Mr. Song told the General Assembly.

The OCA Executive Board approved this on April 30, and the General Assembly gave the final seal of approval on Saturday.

Tchoukball is an indoor team sport, played by teams of seven players. It was developed in Switzerland in the 1970s and has become an international sport with national federations in over 60 countries and regions.
