Thimphu, Bhutan, May 9, 2024: His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, together with HE Sudhakar Dalela, Ambassador of India to Bhutan, presided over the official opening of the Thimphu Aquatic Centre on Wednesday, May 8.
This project was made possible through funding from the Government of India under the project-tied assistance scheme with a budget of NU 48 Million (USD 575,000).
The President of World Aquatics, Mr. Husain Al-Musallam, and a team from World Aquatics, is set to inaugurate the main pool next week.
The advanced pool technology was funded by World Aquatics and the Olympic Council of Asia, amounting to US$450,000.
The state-of-the-art centre meets international standards and aims to provide the facilities needed to train national swimmers for international competition.
