Male, Maldives, May 7, 2024: The Secretary General of the Maldives Olympic Committee, Thamooh Ahmed Saeed, has welcomed the Ambassador of France to the Maldives, Jean-Francoise Pactet, in the capital Male.

The meeting focused on an overview of visa requirements and procedures for Maldivian athletes and officials participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this summer.

In an Instagram post, the Maldives Olympic Committee stated: “We value the opportunity to engage on this important matter and are committed to working closely with the Embassy of France to ensure the successful participation of Maldivian athletes and officials in the Paris Olympic Games.”

Maldives has taken part in every Summer Olympics since Seoul 1988. The country has depended on the IOC’s Universality quota which helps the participation at the Olympic Games of athletes from countries that would, through normal qualification channels, have little or no representation at the Games.

At Tokyo 2020, the Maldives was represented by two male and two female athletes – Hassan Saaid in the men’s 100m in athletics, Fathimath Abdul Razzaq in women’s singles in badminton, and swimmers Mubal Ibrahim, men’s 100m freestyle, and Aishath Sajina, women’s 100m breaststroke.

Maldives has never won an Olympic medal.
