Singapore Sports Awards finalists announced in 13 categories

Singapore, April 24, 2024: The Singapore Sports Awards selection committees revealed the finalists of the 2024 Singapore Sports Awards on Wednesday, April 24.

Organised by the Singapore National Olympic Council and Sport Singapore (SportSG) national sports agency, and supported by the Tote Board, the 2024 awards honour the most deserving individuals and teams in sports for the year 2023. 

The winners will be announced at the awards presentation ceremony on Monday, June 3, 2024.

The main awards selection committee was chaired by Singapore NOC President Grace Fu, while Singapore NOC Vice President Jessie Phua chaired the selection committee for the Sportsboy/Sportsgirl awards.

The 13 award categories for 2024 are: Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Sportsboy of the Year, Sportsgirl of the Year, Coach of the Year, Team of the Year (Team Sport), Team of the Year (Event), Sportsboy/Sportsgirl Team of the Year (Team Sport), Sportsboy/Sportsgirl Team of the Year (Event), Best Sports Event of the Year (Community/Mass Participation), Best Sports Event of the Year (Exhibition/Competition), Most Inspiring Sports Story of the Year, Best Sports Photo of the Year.

Sportsman of the Year Finalists (4): Peter Gilchrist (cue sports), Jowen Lim Si Wei (wushu), Ryan Lo Jun Han (sailing), Darren Ong Wei Siong (bowling).

Sportswoman of the Year Finalists (6): Stephenie Chen (canoe), Kimberly Ong Li Ling (wushu), Veronica Shanti Pereira (athletics), Kyra Poh (indoor skydiving), Letitia Sim En Yi (swimming), Cherie Tan Shi Hua (bowling).

Of the 13 awards, 10 were finalised by the SNOC. The finalists for Best Sports Event of the Year (Community/Mass Participation), Best Sports Event of the Year (Exhibition/Competition) and Most Inspiring Sports Story of the Year were managed and judged by SportSG.

Mark Chay, chairman of the Singapore Sports Awards 2024 organising committee, said: “The year 2023 was a momentous one in Singapore sport – one filled with stunning performances from Team Singapore at the SEA Games, Asian Games and many other world championships. 

“We look forward to celebrating these achievements as well as the outstanding efforts by our athletes, teams, coaches, journalists, photographers and event organisers who have all contributed to add vibrancy to our sporting ecosystem in 2023.”
