OCA rowing youth camp graduate Joanie Delgaco qualifies for Paris Olympics

Manila, Philippines, April 21, 2024: It was a super Sunday for the Philippine Olympic Committee as they announced that two more athletes had qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Rower Joanie Delgaco and gymnast Levi Jung-Ruivivar have both been added to the team after outstanding performances in qualifying competitions.

POC President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino posted on social media: “Congratulations to our new qualified Olympians - Levi Ruivivar of gymnastics and Joanie Delgaco of rowing, the first ever Pinay (female) rower at the Summer Games.

“Their dedication, perseverance and exceptional talent are an inspiration to us all. We at the POC extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for continued success as they compete in Paris 2024. The entire Philippines stands behind you!”

Delgaco, 26, took part in the OCA rowing youth camp in Pattaya, Thailand in October 2016 and her years of hard work have earned her a ticket to Paris.

The Philippine Sports Commission reported: “History made for Joanie Delgaco as the first Pinay rower to qualify in the Olympics after finishing in fourth place of the women’s single sculls final of the 2024 World Rowing Asian and Oceanian Olympic Qualification in Chungju, South Korea.

“She clocked seven minutes and 49.39 seconds, enough to claim one of the five spots available for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.”
