Olympic sailor Tan Wearn Haw appointed Singapore CDM for Paris 2024

Singapore, April 16, 2024: Olympic sailor Tan Wearn Haw has been appointed Chef de Mission by the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) to lead Team Singapore at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Tan, a multi-medallist in the SEA Games and Asian Games and former Asian champion in various junior, youth and Olympic events, competed in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. 

He sailed professionally with the Sino-French challenger for the 32nd America's Cup, as well as professional leagues such as the World Match Racing Tour and Extreme Sailing Series.

Trained as an aeronautical engineer in France and the United Kingdom, the civil servant has worked in various sectors including social, youth, sports, education, non- profit, finance and health. 

He was a former CEO of the Singapore Sailing Federation and founding Director of the National Youth Sports Institute. 

He continues to volunteer on various non-profit organisations including Global E-Sport Federation, Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship Committee, imPAct @ Hong Lim and Singapore Sailing Federation.

Tan, 45, said: "It is an honour to serve in the role of Chef de Mission, and I am looking forward to supporting Team Singapore in Paris. The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will see a return to an Olympic Games without the pandemic restrictions, and exciting new sports, events and formats. 

“We will have Singaporean athletes competing in some of these new events. I am looking forward to our athletes fulfilling their dreams on the Olympic stage, and inspiring fellow Singaporeans through their journeys, stories and performances."

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
