Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, April 16, 2024: The Olympic Council of Malaysia has expressed its heartfelt appreciation to three-time Olympian Wendy Ng Yan Yee for representing Malaysia in diving with such distinction.
Wendy, 30, officially announced her retirement on Monday, April 15, after 20 years in diving and 17 years with the national team.
She has contributed significantly to Malaysia with numerous achievements on the 3m springboard and has competed in three Olympic Games: London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
“We bid farewell to yet another remarkable woman diver. We deeply appreciate her contribution and dedication throughout her career that brought glory to Malaysia,” stated Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM.
“I hope Wendy's achievements will inspire the younger generation to continue Malaysia's dominance in women’s diving. The challenge is for the back-up divers to make the step up and quickly fill in the void left by Wendy,” he added.
Wendy won seven gold medals and three silver at five SEA Games, four silver medals at four Asian Games and one silver medal in the Commonwealth Games.
On Monday, she wrote on social media: “Today, with a grateful and thankful heart, I bid farewell to the pool that’s been my sanctuary and stage for countless unforgettable moments.
“Dear Mama and Papa, your sacrifices were my strength. As I embark on this new journey, I carry memories of past triumphs and hopes for a new venture.
“This retirement marks the beginning of a new chapter. Thank you all for being part of this extraordinary journey. Here’s to new a beginning guided by courage and fueled with passion.”
