Seoul, Korea, April 15, 2024: Korea’s Lim Si-hyeon, who won three gold medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, will spearhead the women’s recurve team at the Paris Olympics this summer.
Lim, 20, was named in the six-strong squad to represent archery’s top nation in the Olympics. Months of trials and eliminations led to the following six names being announced:
Recurve men: Kim Woo-jin, Kim Je-deok and Lee Woo-seok
Recurve women: Lim Si-hyeon, Jeon Hun-young and Nam Su-hyeon
“I’m so grateful to be selected as a member of the team this year. After last year’s results, I will do my best. This is my first time going to the Olympics and I will prepare as much as I prepared for the Asian Games,” said Lim.
“This is a place where everyone wants to be, so I will do my best with the responsibility.”
Lim won three gold medals in mixed team, women’s team and women’s individual at Hangzhou and will be making her Olympic debut along with her two teammates.
The Korean women have won every single Olympic team title since the introduction of the event at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games.
Despite being a rookie, Jeon Hun-young will act as captain – as she is the oldest at 29.
Head coach Hong Seung-jin said communication was key to success this summer – and that is why, despite only selecting the squad on April 11, they’ll already be competing together at the first stage of the 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Shanghai in less than two weeks.
“These are the athletes I trust,” he said. “If we become one, we can bring home all the medals.”
Korea is archery’s most successful nation at the Olympics, collecting 43 podiums and 27 gold medals.
