Lumbini, Nepal, April 7, 2024: A Peace Marathon was held on Saturday, April 6 in Lumbini, Nepal, the birthplace of Buddha and a UNESCO world heritage site, to mark the first Lumbini International Peace Festival.
Hundreds of participants joined the Run for World Peace marathon, 21km half-marathon, 3km walkathon and 5km run. This was followed by a Peace Concert later on Saturday.
Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Narayan Kaji Shrestha, and the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, participated in the two-day programme, which included the Lumbini International Meditation Day, on Friday, April 5.
Also present at the occasion was the President of Nepal Olympic Committee, Jeevan Ram Shrestha.
More than 100 monks and nuns and some 700 practitioners took part in the meditation programme. The chanting of the monks created a peaceful atmosphere, helping everyone feel calm and relaxed.
The Lumbini International Peace Festival was jointly organised by the Nepal Tourism Board, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, the Lumbini Development Trust, the Nepal Olympic Committee and Province Sports Council Nepal.
