Nepal NOC has high hopes for mountaineer Phunjo Lama

Kathmandu, Nepal, April 4, 2024: The President of Nepal Olympic Committee, Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha, along with NOC Secretary General Mr. Nilendra Raj Shrestha, bid farewell to mountaineer Ms. Phunjo Jangmu Lama by wishing her success as she is going to climb the highest peak of the world, Mount Everest.

Ms. Phunjo, who is also an Executive Board member of Nepal Ski Association (NSA), is the world record holder as the fastest women to climb Mt. Everest - and she is aiming to break her own record.

At the send-off ceremony, the flag of NSA and the flag of 100 years of FIS (International Ski and Snowboard Federation) were handed over to Ms. Lama.

President Shrestha gave his best wishes to the climber and said this was a proud moment for NSA and that Ms. Lama was an inspiration to women all around the world.

The President of Nepal Rafting and Canoeing Association, Mr. Rajiv Shrestha, and the President of Nepal Weightlifting Association, Mr. Ram Krishna Shrestha, were also at the send-off ceremony along with representatives of Nepal Ski Association.
