Zagreb, Croatia, March 28, 2024: The President of World Aquatics, Mr. Husain Al Musallam, met with the Prime Minister of Croatia, Mr. Andrej Plenkovic, and discussed several sports topics of mutual concern.
Prime Minister Plenkovic stated that he admired the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China last September and October and also spoke in glowing terms of the recent World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar from February 2-18 – the first world championships to be held in the Middle East.
Croatia won the men’s water polo gold medal, defeating Italy in the final 4-2 in a penalty shootout after an 11-11 draw.
“I would like to congratulate Croatia for winning such a prestigious event as the men’s water polo title at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha,” said Mr. Al Musallam.
“We have also noticed the development of other aquatic disciplines such as swimming, diving and artistic swimming. Croatia is a sports-loving country and no doubt has the potential to host World Aquatics events in the future.”
