Iconic boxer Mary Kom named India's CDM for Paris 2024

New Delhi, India, March 28, 2024: Celebrated boxer Mary Kom has been named as Chef de Mission of the Indian delegation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Indian Olympic Association, in a press release, said that Mary Kom’s “unparalleled dedication to sports and inspiring journey made her a natural choice to guide and mentor our athletes at the Paris Olympics”.

Nicknamed "Magnificent Mary", the six-time world champion, 41, won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics in the flyweight category (51kg). She also became the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal at the Asian Games, at Incheon 2014.

Assisting Mary Kom in this crucial role in Paris 2024 will be Shiva Keshavan, appointed as the Deputy Chef de Mission. Keshavan, a former Olympian in luge, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to support the team’s management and coordination efforts.

Commenting on the appointments, IOA President P.T. Usha said: “We are delighted to have such a distinguished and capable team of officials leading our contingent at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Their expertise, dedication and passion for sports will undoubtedly inspire our athletes to achieve their best and make the nation proud.”
