Manama, Bahrain, March 26, 2024: The Bahrain Olympic Committee has announced that the Kingdom will send a 168-strong squad to the 1st GCC Youth Games in the United Arab Emirates next month.

The Bahrain delegation will compete in 16 sports. The squad, which will comprise 96 male athletes, 20 female athletes and 52 officials, was unveiled at the BOC headquarters on Monday, March 25.

The ceremony was attended by BOC Secretary General Faris Mustafa Al-Kooheji and senior BOC officials Ali Abdulaziz Janahi and Fajer Jassim, who will head the delegation.

Also in attendance were BOC executive committee members and presidents and representatives of national sports federations.

Welcoming all participants, Secretary General Al-Kooheji conveyed the greetings of BOC President HH Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, who wished the Bahrain delegation all success at the Games and underlined that the ultimate goal was to foster binding ties between the youth of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Al-Kooheji emphasised that, while it was important to win medals at the inaugural GCC Youth Games, it was also vital that this competition be used as a springboard to prepare the Kingdom for next year’s Asian Youth Games in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and the IOC Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal in 2026.
