Cambodian sports authorities to produce Kun Khmer global code of ethics

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, March 25, 2024: Cambodian sports authorities are developing a code of ethics for their national martial art of Kun Khmer.

The move is being made to standardise, regulate and govern Kun Khmer around the world in a bid to grow the sport under the strong leadership of the Kun Khmer International Federation.

Cambodia 2023, an organisation dedicated to the promotion and legacy of the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia last year, reports: “Cambodia is set to develop the Kun Khmer Code of Ethics for members of the Kun Khmer International Federation to practice worldwide.

“The Kun Khmer Code of Ethics is a set of guidelines for managing Kun Khmer martial arts in an orderly manner. It aims to bring order to the world by endorsing and expanding Khmer martial arts in line with this code.”

NOC Cambodia Secretary General Vath Chamroeun added: "We strive to support the nation. Our goal is to ensure that Khmer martial arts experience sustainable growth in an environmentally friendly setting."

The fourth World Kun Khmer Championships were held in Siem Reap, Cambodia from November 26-28, 2023 and Cambodia won 14 of the 24 gold medals. The other 10 golds were won by India (3), Iran (2), Cameroon, Japan, Philippines, Russia and Mauritius.

Kun Khmer, or Khmer boxing, is not just a combat sport; it’s deeply entrenched in Cambodian culture and traditions.

The sport made its SEA Games debut in Cambodia last year with 19 gold medals, of which Cambodia won 14 and Vietnam five.
