Astana, Kazakhstan, March 25, 2024: IOC President Dr. Thomas Bach has congratulated Gennady Golovkin on his election as President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan.

“Let me express my most sincere congratulations on your election as President of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan on February 26, 2024, and wish you good luck in this position,” Bach wrote in an official letter sent to the Kazakhstan NOC.

“The IOC looks forward to pursuing its fruitful collaboration with your NOC and remains fully at your disposal to continue to support and assist your NOC in performing its mission and daily activities in the interest of the Olympic movement and the athletes in Kazakhstan.

“It would be a great pleasure to meet you soon at Olympic House in Lausanne,” Bach added.

Legendary boxer Golovkin, a former unified middleweight champion, was elected NOC president at an extraordinary session of the General Assembly of the NOC of Kazakhstan.

The 41-year-old Golovkin succeeded Timur Kulibayev who had been head of the NOC since 2015.

Earlier this month, the popular Golovkin flew to Busto Arsizio, Italy to support Kazakhstan boxers at the first World Qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympics. He rushed straight from the airport to the arena and did not miss a single fight of the Kazakhstan team during the three days of competition.

Golovkin’s presence spurred the men’s national team as they booked five quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympics, including twins Aibek and Nurbek Oralbay.
