Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, March 24, 2024: Hangzhou Asian Games showjumping champion Abdullah Al Sharbatly of Saudi Arabia has announced the acquisition of a “new superstar” in Lord Pezi Junior.

Al Sharbatly, whose scintillating form at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year earned him team jumping and individual jumping gold, posted on Facebook: “So happy to welcome my new superstar, Lord Pezi Junior. Thanks to my friend Sergio Moya for selling me this amazing horse.”

Equnews.com reported: “That Abdullah Al Sharbatly has an eye for good horses ain't no secret anymore. The Saudi Arabian rider, currently ranked 56th in the Longines Ranking, recently added Boeckmanns Lord Pezi Junior to his team of horses.

“The 15 years old stallion by Lord Pezi started his international career under the saddle of Germany's Hartwig Rohde, who passed on the reins to Marco Kutscher at the end of 2018. Kutscher took him up to 4* level until Pedro Veniss took place in the saddle at the beginning of 2020.”

The Brazilian rider steered Lord Pezi Junior to 12 victories, including the Nations Cup Final in Barcelona and five Grand Prix wins, and secured 25 top-three finishes, before Sergio Alvarez Moya took over the stallion at the beginning of 2024.

Now it's Abdullah Al Sharbatly who will ride Boeckmanns Lord Pezi Junior.

The Saudi Arabian added: "Lord Pezi Jr is a great horse. I expect a bright future for us together with hopefully a lot of victories but also great results for my country."

Al Sharbatly, 41, has six gold medals and one silver in his Asian Games career and was also a member of Saudi Arabia’s bronze medal-winning team at the London 2012 Olympic Games. He rode Skorphults Baloutendro to win his two gold medals in Hangzhou.

In 2010 he became the first rider representing Saudi Arabia to win a medal at the world championships, claiming silver in the individual jumping event in Lexington, Kentucky, United States of America.
