Cambodia NOC builds coaching base with Olympic Solidarity technical course

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, March 21, 2024: The President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, Dr. Thong Khon, has highlighted the crucial role of coaches in advancing the standard of athletes across all sports.

Speaking at the end of a 10-day technical course for coaches in athletics in Phnom Penh, the NOCC President and Minister of Tourism said the development of a strong group of coaches was essential in the challenge for gold medals on the international stage.

“With the addition of coaches, it is imperative that we collectively channel our efforts into training our athletes rigorously, preparing them for the opportunity to compete for gold medals,” he said.

“Khmer athletes exhibit remarkable potential, particularly with sufficient sports instructors to train them to the highest standards within educational institutions.

“Such concerted efforts will undoubtedly propel the advancement of sports development in our nation. Let's continue to support our national sports sector.”

The course was held from March 11-20 and was run in cooperation with Olympic Solidarity, World Athletics, the Association of Athletics Federation of Cambodia (Khmer AAF) and the NOCC.

The participants received IOC certification on completion of the course.
