World boxing champion Petecio to receive sportswriters’ award in Philippines

Manila, Philippines, February 24, 2020: World boxing champion Nesthy Petecio will be among the main recipients of the Philippine Sportswriters Association annual awards, to be held at the Manila Hotel on March 6.

The 27-year-old featherweight won gold in the women’s world championships in 2019. She also won SEA Games gold at the end of the year, improving on her three silver medals from previous editions of the regional sports extravaganza.

Petecio is on the list of main awardees for the sportswriters’ event, along with Rio 2016 silver medallist and 2018 Asian Games weightlifting champion Hidilyn Diaz and Tokyo Olympic Games-bound pole vaulter EJ Obiena.

Carlos “Caloy” Yulo will receive the PSA President’s Trophy after winning the men’s floor exercise gold medal at the FIG world gymnastics championships in Stuttgart, Germany. He also picked up two gold medals and five silvers at the SEA Games in 2019.
