Kathmandu, Nepal, March 19, 2024: The President of the Nepal Olympic Committee Jeevan Ram Shrestha made the opening address at a preparatory meeting on Monday, March 18, for the Lumbini International Peace Marathon next month.
The Lumbini Peace Marathon, to be held on April 6, will mark the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace.
Others present at the meeting were officials from the Lumbini Development Trust, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, the Province Sports Council of Lumbini, the Nepal Tourism Board and delegates from the Hotel Association of Lumbini.
In his opening address, NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha explained the significance of Lumbini and the Peace Marathon.
Lumbini, a 10-hour drive from the capital Kathmandu, is a Buddhist pilgrimage site. Buddha was born in 623 B.C. in the famous gardens of Lumbini.
