IOC Member Samira Asghari salutes two Afghan female athletes on IWD

Lausanne, Switzerland, March 10, 2024: Afghanistan’s IOC Member Samira Asghari posted an International Women’s Day message of motivation and support for two female athletes in particular to mark IWD on March 8.

Samira wrote on her Facebook account: “Happy International Women's Day to all the resilient and proud women of Afghanistan and the world.”

Speaking of her homeland, Samira added: “The resistance and bravery of Afghan women is portrayed in the minds of everyone after years of being deprived of their basic rights and isolated.

“Today, two athletes and Olympians, the proud ladies of our country, brought joy and hope to our hearts on the biggest and most important international stage - qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“I congratulate this success from the bottom of my heart to Mrs. Zakia Khudadadi, taekwondo Paralympian, and Mrs. Sadia Bromand (boxing). I wish success to all Afghan youth.”
