Nepal NOC honours two outstanding female athletes

Kathmandu, Nepal, March 10, 2024: On the 114th International Women's Day, the Women and Sports Commission of NOC Nepal celebrated the achievements of women in sports by honoring two outstanding athletes.

Ms. Parbati Thapa, Nepal's first female Olympian in shooting from the 1988 Olympic Games, and Ms. Ganga Shrestha, a devoted member of the National Sports Council for 34 years, were recognised for their contributions.

The IWD event, attended by two female representatives from 27 affiliated associations, showcased the importance of recognising and supporting women in sports at all levels. The participants were presented with appreciation letters and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 each in acknowledgment of their outstanding efforts.

Mr. Jeevan Ram Shrestha, NOC President, praised the awardees for their dedication and encouraged all women to embrace their achievements proudly. Alongside the felicitation ceremony, the Nepal Olympic Academy organised a session on Safeguarding, led by Mr. Sujan Lal Shrestha, Director of NOA, to promote safety and inclusivity in sports environments.
