Kuwait City, Kuwait, March 8: On behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia, I would like to wish everyone a very happy International Women’s Day on Friday, March 8, 2024.
I know that the occasion will be marked by National Olympic Committees and by individual athletes throughout the continent, and the OCA joins in this celebration of women in sport and their achievements in a number of fields.
The OCA is very proud of our female sports leaders, administrators and, of course, our female athletes, who are the role models for a new generation of international sports stars.
We witnessed their achievements at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year and will do so again at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 against the best in the world.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all our female athletes who have qualified for the Paris Olympics, and we are certain that Asia will produce many more Olympic champions this summer.
Olympic medals are the best way to promote women in sport as the medal-winners inspire a nation with their efforts, their determination and their achievements.
Olympic champions, Olympic medallists and Olympians attract a new generation of sports lovers and encourage people to strive for the best to reach the top.
This applies to all aspects of sport, not just on the field of play but behind the scenes such as the sports administrators within our National Olympic Committees and our female sports leaders in government and in education.
The OCA is always willing and prepared to promote women in sport and to offer support from the bottom of the ladder to the top through various programmes and initiatives.
Our door is always open – not just on International Women’s Day, March 8, but every day.
