Bangkok, Thailand, March 7, 2024: A senior official of the Thailand Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games Organising Committee (TAIMAGOC), Dr. Meechai Inwood, is hopeful that the November showpiece will inspire the next generation of Thais to sports.

Dr. Inwood, Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand and Deputy Secretary General of TAIMAGOC, underlined this key aspect of the legacy of the November 21-30 Games.

“While we expect a huge economic benefit to Thailand, it is also crucial to look at the legacy of these Games, and hope that the next generation of Thais sees how important sport is,” Dr. Inwood noted.

Erudite and outspoken, Dr. Inwood has been the face of TAIMAGOC during the first Chefs de Mission Meeting and the 4th Coordination Committee Meeting held this week in Bangkok. Both these meetings were preceded by the Technical Delegates Meeting.

“Sport is a field which brings all of us together and the unity of Asia is important to us. That is why we have accommodated all requests for sports as we want everyone to be close together,” Dr. Inwood.

The Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand also assured the OCA that the financial aspect of the Games would be in place by the end of April.

“We are in the final stages of getting the budget for the Games approved by the Government. There is a delay now because the government is focused on getting the national budget passed through parliament. Once that is done, we expect the budget for our Games to be approved. This will be done by the end of April,” Dr. Inwood explained.
