Bangkok, Thailand, March 5, 2024: Dato Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat, OCA Vice President and Vice President of Thailand NOC, assured delegates at the 1st Chefs de Mission Meeting that empty halls and unadorned indoor stadiums would be transformed into fully-fledged facilities for the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in November.
Addressing Chefs de Mission and other officials from all 45 Asian National Olympic Committees on Tuesday, March 5, Dato Siriwat went to great pains to comfort the delegates who had visited mostly bare sporting facilities and venues during site visits in Bangkok and Chonburi Province the day before.
“I know that when you went to visit the sites it might not have met with your expectations. But let me assure you that we have a plan and all these venues will be transformed by the time the Games happen,” Dato Siriwat told participants at the Centara Grand Hotel in Bangkok.
“The hardware is in place and work will commence soon on providing the software and other amenities. At some venues work will only be completed a week, or even three days before competition gets underway. But you don’t have to worry about this for we have a plan with the timelines in place,” Dato Siriwat announced frankly.
The Games will be held from November 21 to 30, 2024.
Thai organisers of AIMAG 6 reiterated that comprehensive preparations covering various activities would commence soon. Delegates at the CDM meeting were taken through all aspects of the Games covering topics from transport and security to medical and anti-doping measures that will be in place for the showpiece.
The CDM meeting had been preceded by the Technical Delegates Meeting. Wrapping up a series of meetings will be will be a visit by the OCA Coordination Committee on March 6.
“The CDM meeting was held so that we could get valuable insight from them. We are happy that everything has proceeded smoothly,” Dato Siriwat added.
OCA Deputy Director General Vinod Kumar Tiwari, who co-chaired the CDM meeting, confirmed that AIMAG 6 was on track to be held in Thailand in November.
“The hardware is all in place and now we will proceed with the software. It might take some time to get there, but we will get there,” assured Tiwari.
