Doha, Qatar, March 1, 2024: OCA Executive Board member Mikako Kotani has proved she still has what it takes to win medals at the highest level.
Mikako, who is Chair of the OCA Athletes’ Committee, won the gold medal for Japan with Atsushi Abe in the artistic swimming mixed duet at the World Aquatics Masters Championships in Doha.
The Japanese pair were presented with their gold medals by the President of World Aquatics and OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam.
Mikako, 57, represented Japan in two Olympic Games, winning bronze medals in both the solo and duet events at Seoul 1988. She also competed at Barcelona 1992.
Abe, 41, won two bronze medals at the 18th FINA (now World Aquatics) World Championships in Korea in 2019, in mixed duet technical and mixed duet free.
The World Aquatics Masters Championships are taking place in Doha, following the conclusion of the World Aquatics Championships from February 2-18.
