Bangkok, Thailand, March 2, 2024: Cheerleading will be among 36 sports to feature at the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Bangkok and Chonburi Province, Thailand from November 21-30, 2024.
A total of 36 sports plus two demonstration sports – airsport and teqball - was announced by the Olympic Council of Asia and Thai organisers on the opening day of a series of meetings for AIMAG 6 which kicked off on Saturday, March 2 at the Centara Grand Hotel in Bangkok.
Officials from International Federations and Asian Federations at the opening Technical Delegates meeting were informed that athletes from the 45 National Olympic Committees in Asia would vie for 359 gold medals in 36 sports.
The 20 sports in Bangkok are: aquatics, badminton, baseball 5, basketball (3x3), BMX cycling, bowling, cheerleading, climbing, fencing, floorball, futsal, indoor hockey, ju-jitsu, kickboxing, netball, pencak silat, sepak takraw, shooting, skate, volleyball.
The 16 sports in Chonburi Province are: indoor athletics, billiard sports, chess, dancesport, esports, indoor rowing, kabaddi, karate, kurash, mixed martial arts, muay thai, roller ski, sambo, taekwondo, weightlifting, wrestling.
One of the new attractions, and a medal sport, will be cheerleading, a team activity in which elements of dance and acrobatics are combined with shouted slogans to encourage louder and more enthusiastic cheering.
