Harbin, China, February 27, 2024: The Olympic Council of Asia has confirmed the general competition schedule for the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China in February 2025.
The 9th AWG will open on February 7 and close on February 14, but the men’s ice hockey, women’s ice hockey and curling will all begin on February 5.
There will be a total of 64 medal events across the six sports of skating, ice hockey, curling, skiing, biathlon and ski mountaineering.
Skating comprises speed skating, short track speed skating and figure skating, while skiing consists of alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing (aerials, halfpipe, slopestyle, big air) and snowboard (halfpipe, slopestyle, big air).
There will be 11 gold medals presented on February 10 and on February 11, 10 on February 13, nine on February 8 and February 9, eight on February 12 and six on the last day of competition, February 14.
Speed skating offers the most gold medals with 14, followed by short track with nine.
The ice events will be held in Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang province in northeast China, using the existing stadiums from the 1996 Asian Winter Games, while the snow events will be in Yabuli, 193km from Harbin.
Harbin International Conference, Exhibition and Sports Centre will host the opening ceremony on February 7 and the closing ceremony on February 14.
