Doha, Qatar, February 18, 2024: The World Aquatics flag was passed from Qatar to Singapore at the handover ceremony of the World Aquatics Championships – Doha 2024 at Aspire Dome on Sunday evening.
Singapore will host the next edition of the World Aquatics Championships in 2025 featuring the six disciplines of swimming, diving, water polo, high diving, artistic swimming and open water swimming.
The President of World Aquatics, Captain Husain Al-Musallam, received the World Aquatics flag from Qatar and handed it over to Singapore as a symbolic gesture between the two host cities.
Capt. Husain thanked the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Chair of the local organising committee, HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, for his leadership in organising the first World Aquatics Championships in the Middle East and said he could not be prouder of the achievement.
“This has been a truly exceptional World Aquatics Championships – Doha 2024,” the World Aquatics President said.
“Doha has been an outstanding home, and the venues are absolutely superb. The athletes have loved competing here,” he added.
Capt. Husain said Doha 2024 had seen a new generation of aquatics stars emerge and described it as a “thrilling time” for the sport.
Doha 2024 has been running from February 2-18, and the handover ceremony was held before the last night of action featuring eight gold medals.
