Doha, Qatar, February 12, 2024: China’s three-time Hangzhou Asian Games gold medallist Yu Yiting won the bronze medal in the women’s 200m individual medley at the World Aquatics Championships – Doha 2024 at Aspire Dome on Monday.
The 18-year-old Yu finished third in 2:09.01, 01.96 seconds behind the defending champion and top seed Kate Douglass of the United States, who won gold in 2:07.05. Canada’s Sydney Pickrem won the silver in 2:08.56, 01.51 behind Douglass.
The Tokyo Olympian won gold medals in the women’s 200m medley, 400m medley and women’s 4x100m freestyle relay at Hangzhou last September as well as silver in the women’s 50m butterfly behind teammate Zhang Yufei, who is not competing in Doha as she concentrates on training for the Paris Olympics.
Yu was also third in this race behind Douglass and Alexandra Walsh (United States) at the 2023 world championships in Fukuoka, Japan and then went on to post a career-best time in this event at the Asian Games two months later.
That swim catapulted the Chinese teenager into 10th on the all-time rankings.
